Hyderabad: Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav on Monday announced that the State government plans to take up meat sales under the Telangana brand and was conducting a study in this regard. He directed the officials to examine the feasibility of opening outlets under the aegis of Telangana State Sheep and Goat Development Cooperative Federation and make necessary arrangements.

He pointed out that the distribution of subsidised sheep had already resumed in the State and will the process will be completed as per GO 52 to provide sheep units to about 28,000 applicants who have contributed their share. He directed the officials to conduct a special drive to prevent artificial hike in meat prices and also initiate stringent measures against illegal slaughter houses across the State including GHMC limits.

Speaking at a review meeting on various programmes of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries departments here, the Minister directed the officials to immediately release pending dues of Rs 28 crore till December last towards the Rs 4 per litre incentive to dairy farmers in the State. He assured that the government will clear the pending payment of salaries to Gopala Mitras till December last immediately. He said arrangements were being made to pay their salaries in the first week of every month.

“After the State formation, Vijaya Dairy commenced its journey towards profits successfully and increased its outlets from 32 in 2017 to 361 as on date. We are now in a position to compete with private dairies in terms of dairy products,” he said. He said Vijaya Dairy will launch its range of ice creams from January 26. He wanted the officials to obtain necessary indents in advance to procure medicines and make them available across all the government veterinary hospitals without fail.

Srinivas Yadav asked the officials to initiate measures for producing fishlings within the State to meet local needs. “Mobile fish outlets will commence operations from the first week of February across the State including near bunds of major reservoirs to sell fish,” he stated. Further, he suggested rationalisation and transfer of staff of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries departments for effective use of available resources.

Principal Secretary Anita Rajendra, Fisheries commissioner Lachiram Bhukya, Animal Husbandry director Laxma Reddy, Vijaya Dairy managing director Srinivasa Rao and other officials were present.
