Hyderabad: Telangana BJP State president Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Saturday alleged that the ruling party was attempting to rake up Telangana sentiment once again through the paddy procurement issue and derive political mileage.
In an open letter addressed to farmers, he requested them to understand the reality and act accordingly. He urged farmers to be part of the fight against the ruling party in the State. It was the ruling party, which committed the mistake in procuring paddy from farmers in the State and unnecessarily putting the blame on the Centre, he said.
Instead of sorting out the issue, the State government was trying to make it more complicated, he said, adding that politicizing the issue would not benefit farmers. It was the State government, which declared that the paddy procurement centres would be closed in the State in yasangi and kept farmers in a confused situation.
Sanjay said Telangana generated over one crore metric tonnes of paddy during yasangi this time and due to non-availability of minimum support price, the farmers were facing untold problems. Recalling various steps taken by the Centre for the benefit of farmers across the country, he said the Central government paid Rs.97,575 crore to the State government from 2014 till kharif season for purchasing paddy. He sought to know as to why only Telangana was facing problems in paddy procurement when there was no such problem in other States.
