Hyderabad: Fisheries Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav said the State government will extend all support to private companies keen on setting up fishling production centres in the State.

At present, there are 24 government fishling production centres spread over 389 acre in the State. Among these, fishling production is being taken up is some centres and there was a need to commence production in the other centres, he said at a meeting with department officials here on Saturday.

During 2019-20, a total of 2.11 crore fishlings were produced and in 2020-21, 2.40 crores were produced, he said, adding: “If production commences at the other centres that are spread over 179 acres, 23 crore fishlings could be produced.”

The Minister instructed officials to clear the silt and take up repairs to damaged pipelines besides digging borewells at these centres and commence operations. “If required, execute these works under NREGS,” he said.

Srinivas Yadav directed the officials to explore the possibility of commencing operations in some of these centres in association with private companies. “Government will extend all support to private companies if they come forward to set up fishling production centres,” he said.

The Minister further instructed the officials to initiate measures to increase fishling production as a means to meet the State’s requirement. The State Government has been distributing fishlings for free and for implementing the programme effectively, huge quantities of fishlings were being procured from neighbouring States, he informed.

With the State Government constructing many reservoirs, the scope for fisheries development has increased manifold and accordingly, there is lot of requirement for fishlings, he explained.

Considering all these factors, measures should be taken to produce fishlings at the government centres to meet the State’s requirement, he said.

To ensure supply of quality fish to customers and to facilitate them purchase the same in hygienic ambience, retail fish outlets should be set up across the State, the Minister said. The fish federation should initiate measures for procuring fish from fishermen, besides setting up wholesale markets at strategic locations, he said.
