GPO, mediator arrested for accepting Rs 80,000 bribe in Mancherial

Anti-Corruption Bureau officials arrested a Grama Palana Officer and a mediator for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 80,000 at Peddapet village in Mancherial district. The bribe was allegedly sought to regularise land under the Sada Bainama scheme.

Mancherial: A Grama Palana Officer (GPO) and another person were arrested by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials while accepting a bribe of Rs 80,000 at Peddapet village in Bheemini mandal on Tuesday.

Adilabad ACB DSP G Madhu said that Durga Prasad, GPO of Peddapet, and Pothu Rajender, a mediator, were caught red-handed after receiving the bribe from a complainant to validate transfer of land and to issue a land title. The two were produced before a special court for ACB cases in Karimnagar.

Durga Prasad reportedly harassed the complainant, seeking a bribe of Rs 1.30 lakh to regularise a piece of land under the Sada Bainama scheme. He agreed to accept Rs 80,000 through Rajender as the first instalment. The complainant approached the ACB, which in turn laid a trap and apprehended the two.
