Peddapalli: Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) management has agreed to provide Clerical Grade-III posts to graduate dependents under compassionate appointments for employees who lost their lives in fatal mine accidents.
An agreement to this effect was reached between the recognised trade union, Singareni Collieries Workers’ Union, and SCCL management at the office of the Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner, Vidyanagar, Hyderabad, on Thursday.
Earlier, graduate dependents were eligible only for General Assistant posts. As per the 2009 circular, candidates with technical degrees such as Mining, Mechanical, Electrical and Civil Engineering, diplomas in Mining, Mechanical or Electrical, and ITI qualifications in Electrical, Fitter or Welder trades were provided jobs aligned with their qualifications.
The union, however, sought an extension of the benefit to other degree holders and raised the issue during the 51st structured meeting held on June 27 at the Director (PA) level.
Following directions from Chairman and Managing Director, SCCL, N Balram, and Director (Personnel) Goutam Potru, a bilateral agreement was signed with the recognised trade union at the SCCL headquarters on September 5. Subsequent discussions with union representatives in the presence of the Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner led to a tripartite agreement being finalised on Thursday.
As per the agreement, if no eligible dependent with a technical degree is available in the deceased employee’s family, other degree holders will be considered for Clerical Grade-III posts.
Appointments will be made based on the availability of posts and after a special examination is conducted for graduate dependents. Only those who qualify through the test will be recruited as Clerical Grade-III. Dependents who fail to clear the test will be appointed as General Assistants (Category-I).
