Gram panchayat polls: BRS continues strong show in Adilabad
BRS sustained its dominance in the final phase of gram panchayat elections in erstwhile Adilabad district, with party-backed candidates winning 118 villages across four districts, consolidating its strong performance over all three phases of the polls

Adilabad: The BRS continued its winning streak in the third and final phase of gram panchayat elections held across erstwhile Adilabad district on Wednesday.
As many as 494 villages were notified for polls under this phase in Adilabad, Mancherial, Nirmal and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts. While sarpanches of 48 villages were elected unanimously, 446 gram panchayats went to polls in the final phase. As per reports, Sarpanch candidates backed by BRS won from 118 villages in the four districts.
Significantly, the Sarpanch candidates supported by the party stood in the top spot by registering victory in 64 villages out of the total 120 villages that saw polls in Adilabad district, while the candidates backed by the party bagged 32 villages as against the total of 104 gram panchayats in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district. Similarly, candidates endorsed by the BRS clinched 18 villages in Mancherial and six villages in Nirmal district.
According to party leaders, the BRS-backed candidates won in 224 villages in the two phases of the elections in erstwhile Adilabad district which saw polls to 1,020 panchayats. They registered victory in 121 villages in the first phase and 103 villages in the second phase in the four district districts such as Adilabad, Nirmal, Mancherial and Kumram Bheem Asifabad.
As many as 47 candidates supported by the BRS registered victory in the first phase of the polls, while 29 candidates emerged triumphant in the second phase of the elections held in Adilabad district. The party backed candidates won from 40 villages in the first phase of polls, while 45 candidates supported by the party registered victory in the second phase polls in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district.
