Hyderabad: BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao expressed grief over the passing of former Prime Minister and noted economist Dr Manmohan Singh, calling it a great loss for the nation. Expressing deep sorrow, he offered his condolences to the former Prime Minister’s family.

In a statement, Chandrashekhar Rao lauded Dr Manmohan Singh’s pivotal role as a financial expert in implementing economic reforms under the leadership of former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao during a critical period for the Indian economy. “Dr Manmohan Singh, a beloved son of India, earned PV Narasimha Rao’s trust and admiration, reaching remarkable heights in his career,” he said.

Reflecting on his association with the former Prime Minister, the BRS chief recalled his tenure as a Union Minister in the former’s Cabinet during the Telangana statehood movement. He recalled Dr Manmohan Singh’s understanding of Telangana’s sentiments and his support for the State formation.

“The formation of Telangana during Dr Manmohan Singh’s tenure as Prime Minister was a historic milestone. The people of Telangana will always remember his support and efforts,” he added. Describing Dr Manmohan Singh as a gentle and learned leader, Chandrashekhar Rao emphasised the profound impact of his service to the nation.
