Adilabad:All occasions are auspicious for raising greenery if you are concerned for the environment. As part of the Green India Challenge ideated by RajyaSabha member J Santosh Kumar, a newly married couple planted saplings and set an example for others in increasing green cover of the State, at Mukhra (K) village in Echodamandal on Sunday.
Bride ChowhanRani and groom Ajay, still in their wedding dress, took out time and planted the saplings at a spot situated near the venue of the marriage. They said that they came forward to sapling following the call given by SantoshKumar. They won plaudits from many for doing so on the sidelines of the occasion and inspiring others. Mukhra (K) SarpanchGadge Meenakshi, who witnessed the rare scene, said that the act of Rani and Ajay was laudable and the pair became a role model to others who hesitate to plant saplings. Anyone can plant saplings anytime. Improving greenery is the need of the hour, considering adverse impacts of climate change. Green India Challenge is the right cause to draw inspiration and to raise the green cover, she opined.
Incidentally, Mukhra (K) is regarded as a model village in erstwhileAdilabad in implementing various government schemes and improving greenery. Significantly, the residents of the tiny habitation planted 30,000 saplings in open spaces, palleprakritivanam and on the premises of every house as part of the massive plantation drive.
