Green India Challenge launches Jammi tree planting program for Dasara
As per the initiative, Jammi which is Telangana State tree, will be planted in every village and every temple.

Hyderabad: On the occasion of Dasara festival, Green India Challenge (GIC) is all set to launch another innovative program. As per the initiative, Jammi which is Telangana State tree, will be planted in every village and every temple.
The poster for the program was unveiled by former Rajya Sabha member and GIC founder, Joginapally Santosh Kumar and the priest of Swarnagiri temple on Friday.
Jammi tree which since the Vedic period is revered by everyone was recognised as the State tree by the previous government led by Chief Minister K.Chandrashekhar Rao. Since Jammi is endangered due to several factors, Santosh Kumar has come up with the slogan ‘Uru Uruko Jammi Chettu – Gudigudiko Jammi Chettu’ on behalf of Green India Challenge.
In Telangana it is customary to worship Jammi tree on Dasara and it is also customary to exchange Jammi leaves with relatives and wish them good luck. In view of its importance, Santosh Kumar announced during the poster release held at Swarnagiri temple that during the upcoming Dasara Navratri festivities, the Jammi tree program will be started in each village and temple. He said that more than 10,000 Jammi plants are already being prepared and these will be distributed to all the villages and temples.
Karunakar Reddy, co-founder of Green India Challenge, said when the State of Telangana came into being, Jammi tree was declared as the State tree by then Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
