A man from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh has filed for divorce from his wife for a bizarre reason – as she does not bathe daily. The unusual incident was reported after the wife filed a complaint at the Women Protection cell in Aligarh.

The couple was married two years ago and has a one-year-old toddler. However, the man has now filed a petition at the Women’s cell that the couple had a verbal spat every day as the wife was asked to bathe.

The cell has now started providing counselling sessions to both partners as a means to save the marriage from breaking due to a petty issue.

“A woman gave us a written complaint stating that her husband has given her triple talaq on the pretext of not bathing every day. We are providing counselling to the couple and their parents to save their marriage,” said a counsellor working with the Women Protection Cell.

The counsellor added that the woman has expressed her wish to continue the marriage while the man was firm on ending terms with the woman. He also gave an application to the cell in order to seek help to get a divorce from his wife, the counsellor said.

“We are trying to counsel the man to not break his marriage with his wife as it is a minor issue which can be solved. We are also trying to make him understand that their divorce can also affect the upbringing of their child,” the counsellor said.

The members of the cell also stated that since the reason for the divorce application does not fall under any violent act or crime against women, the petition cannot move forward.

Meanwhile, the Women Protection Cell has given time to the couple to think about reworking on their relationship.
