Hyderabad: Gusty winds and a rain splash in several parts of the city and suburbs brought a reprieve from the sweltering mid-summer for the denizens on Thursday.

While the day started with cloud cover and a drop in temperature, late afternoon had the rains lashing out various parts of the city. Gusty winds were extensive across the city, while several localities such as Malkajgiri, Miyapur and Gachibowli, had rains lashing with high intensity.

The highest rainfall in the city till 7 pm was recorded at 17 mm in Malkajgiri followed by 8.3 mm in Himayathnagar, 7.5 mm in Hafeezpet, 3.8 mm in Ramachandrapuram and 3 mm at Serilingampally, according to the Telangana Development Planning Society data.

Given the change in weather conditions and possibility of rains in the city core, many rushed back home early anxious to avoid getting drenched and get caught in traffic snarls.

The Indian Meteorological Department – Hyderabad on Thursday recorded the maximum temperature as 37.6 degree Celsius and minimum temperature at 24.5 degree Celsius. The forecast for Friday looks at partly cloudy sky with possibility of rain or thunderstorm while the forecast for Saturday suggests rain or thundershowers towards afternoon or evening.
