Nalgonda: Telangana State Legislative Council former Chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy on Sunday blamed the Central government for its negligence and lakadaisical attitude for the disputes between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh States on sharing of Krishna River water.
Speaking at a media conference held in his camp office at Nalgonda, Sukender Reddy said that the Centre was the reason for the differences that arose between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on sharing of river waters and resources after reorganisation of undivided Andhra Pradesh. The Centre should hold a meeting of Chief Ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to resolve the issues, he suggested.
He alleged that looting of resources of Telangana by the Andhra colonial rulers for the interests of their area began since 1959 when the united Andhra Pradesh state was formed. The construction of Nagarjuna Sagar was taken up 15 kilometers below the first decided place with an intention to divert more water to Andhra area at the cost of interests of Telangana.
He reminded that erstwhile Y S Rajasekhar Reddy government had drawn additional 44,000 cusecs of water from Srisaliam project by widening the sluice of Pothireddypadu project in 2004. Presently, the government of Andhra Pradesh headed by Chief Minister YS Jagan mohan Reddy was drawing water from Srisaliam project for Rayalaseema and Sangameshwara projects at the level of 800 feet water level. Andhra Pradesh had right to water from the project only when the water level was above 850 feet. Though government of Telangana state has approached the Krishna Water Board, there was no change in the attitude of AP government, he added.
Indirectly referring to the statements of the ministers of Andhra Pradesh, he made it clear that Telangana State had the right to utilise its share in Krishna River water.
Revanth’s dream would never materialise
Reacting on the appointment of Revenath Reddy as TPCC president, Sukhender Reddy said that a person like Uttara Kumarudu, who was synonymous for making bombastic comments in the mythology, was installed in the place of Uttam Kumar Reddy by the Congress high command. Of course, it was an internal matter of the Congress, he said, adding that the dreams of Revanth Reddy to bring the Congress to power in Telangana would remain unfulfilled. He opined that two years would not be enough for Revanth Reddy to settle internal disputes in the Congress in the state, he maintained.
