Hyderabad: Amid demands from some MLAs for induction into the State Cabinet, Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy on Saturday favoured a Cabinet reshuffle, saying it would bring a fresh approach to the government.

“There needs to be a change in the Cabinet. There needs to be a change in the government. The existing Cabinet should be reshuffled,” Sukhender Reddy said during an informal interaction with media persons.

The Council Chairman observed that it had been two-and-a-half years since the Congress government was formed and said a Cabinet reorganisation would bring a fresh approach to governance.

“Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy should have the freedom to function. No obstacles should be created for him and everyone should cooperate with him,” he said.

He also expressed concern over the lack of discipline in the party and said infighting within the Congress should be curbed.

“Failure to take action against those who cross the party line will harm the party,” Sukhender Reddy said.

“It would have been better if State Planning Board Vice-Chairman G Chinna Reddy had not spoken so openly. If all these issues are addressed, the party can return to power,” he said, according to reports.

The Council Chairman also criticised the State government on some issues. He suggested increasing the existing monthly pension of Rs 2,000 and wanted the Rythu Bharosa scheme to continue, while restricting its benefits to eligible recipients.

On the ongoing controversy over Section 22A, Sukhender Reddy said the issue had existed during the BRS regime as well. He demanded that the 22A provision be abolished.
