Adilabad: Two persons were arrested by sleuths of a Task Force team for allegedly smuggling prohibited gutkha in Thatiguda colony of Adilabad town on Monday. The value of the seized property was Rs 6 lakh.
Task Force Inspector E Chandramouli said that the accused were Shaik Nissar and his relative Shaik Saleem belonging to Thatiguda in Adilabad town. They were found storing the banned gutkha packets in their residence, following a tip.
During interrogation, Nissar admitted to committing the offence for making a fast buck, with the help of Saleem for quite a long time. He confessed to importing the product from neighboring States and to selling the same to local traders. He revealed that he was storing the products in the house of Saleem.
In-charge Superintendent of Police M Rajesh Chandra commended the inspector and his counterpart of intelligence G Mallesh for clamping down the menace.
Head constables D Shobhan Kumar, and M Ramesh Kumar, constables MA Kareem, Ade Mangal Singh, Syed Rahat, Thakur Jagan Singh, K Hanumanth Rao and G Sukanya took part in the operation.
