Warangal: Pittala Raju, a cell phone shop owner, who was set on fire by a chit fund agent and his wife, has succumbed to burns at a private hospital here on Wednesday. He is survived by his wife Siri and a five-year-old son.
Godugu Kavya, the main accused, and her husband Godugu Ganesh, an agent with the Achala Chit Funds Pvt Ltd, had set Raju (35) ablaze by pouring petrol on him inside his shop near Ashoka Chowasta in broad daylight on Friday over the delay in payment of a chit amount. The couple was arrested the next day by the Hanamkonda police.
Meanwhile, CPI state secretariat committee member Takkalapally Srinivas Rao, in a statement, demanded the State government to rein in over the private chit fund companies that had mushroomed recently. He also demanded stern action against the chit fund company that claimed the life of an innocent subscriber.
