Mancherial: A 16-year-old boy tried to end his life by consuming pesticide alleging that he was unable to bear harassment by Kannepalli Sub-Inspector A Gangaram on Monday.
Family members said that Chintala Krishna Manohar, an Intermediate student from NTR Nagar in Mancherial town, tried to end his life as he was beaten black and blue by the Sub-Inspector, who also demanded a bribe on Sunday. Manohar was admitted to the government general hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
Manohar and his cousin Sudhakar were arrested, allegedly for diverting rice meant for the public distribution system in Kannepalli mandal on December 15. Police seized 5 quintals of PDS rice and an auto-rickshaw from the duo.
When asked, SI Gangaram refuted the allegations levelled against him by the two. He said he had not thrashed Manohar, nor demanded a bribe from him. He had come to the police station for the release of the autorickshaw but was making baseless allegations, Gangaram said.
