Hyderabad: Harassment over the phone appears to be a major problem for women in the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate limits. Complaints lodged with the Cyberabad She Team in the month of August hint in this direction.

Out of 180 complaints, 44 pertained to phone harassment, while there were 28 complaints of domestic violence. Blackmailing and harassing were third with 17 complaints, while 12 women complained that they were cheated in the name of marriage. There were 12 complaints of misbehaving and nine of harassment over WhatsApp.

The 11 She Teams in Cyberabad, which are catering to the needs of the increasing number of women who are coming forward to register complaints, received complaints from women through various social media including Twitter and WhatsApp, QR Code and E-mail. The She Teams approached the complainants at their place of contact to make a complaint. All complaints were acted upon and disposed of on merits, according to an official statement.

Officials said based on the verification of the facts in the complaints, 35 cases were booked, including 11 FIRs and 24 petty cases. As many as 112 persons were counseled and 69 were warned to change their behaviour. During the same period, the teams conducted decoy operations and caught 122 persons on the spot and booked petty cases apart from stopping four child marriages.

The Cyberabad police requested women facing any kind of harassment to approach the She Teams by sending a message to WhatsApp No.9490617444 or can directly call the divisional She or Dial 100 or send e-mail to sheteam.cyberabad@gmail.com or Twitter (@sheteamcybd), Facebook (Woman and ChildrenSafetyWing) and Instagram (womenandchildrensafetywingcybd).

Seven held for harassing women

The Cyberabad She Team caught seven youngsters on charges of harassing women at public places in Kukatpally here on Monday. The suspects, Ravi, Suresh, Shiva, Teja Babu, Yadagiri, Naresh and Chinna Babu, all in their twenties were found harassing women. The She Team personnel who were present there as part of a decoy operation documented their acts and caught them. They were counselled and handed over to the Kukatpally police, who booked cases and are investigating.
