Harish Rao arrested in Hanamkonda during TNGOs’ protest

Hyderabad: BRSLP deputy leader T Harish Rao was arrested by police in Hanamkonda on Thursday after he attended a protest by Telangana Non-Gazetted Officers (TNGOs) at the district Collectorate and extended his support to their demands.

Harish Rao reached the protest camp and assured the employees of his full support, while demanding that the government immediately resolve the problems faced by its employees.

He was arrested while returning from the protest. Police took him into custody and shifted him to the Subedari police station on foot, triggering protests by BRS workers. The activists objected to the police’s rude treatment of the former Minister and alleged that he was not even allowed to board a vehicle.

Tension prevailed at the Collectorate as BRS workers and police personnel were involved in pushing and jostling. BRS workers raised slogans against the government and attempted to prevent police from taking Harish Rao away.

The arrest came amid heightened security in Warangal and Hanamkonda over Harish Rao’s proposed visit to the government polytechnic college, where students have been protesting against GO 97 and the proposed merger of polytechnic education with the Young India Skill University.

Police had earlier detained BRS and student leaders and maintained heavy deployment around the polytechnic college to prevent Harish Rao from reaching the protesting students.

Former government Chief Whip Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar and other BRS leaders were also arrested, while BRS State leader Enugula Rakesh Reddy was stopped and sent away after reaching the Polytechnic College.

The developments led to traffic disruption around the Hanamkonda Collectorate as police took steps to bring the situation under control.
