Warangal: Former Minister and senior BRS leader T Harish Rao blamed Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for the water crisis in Telangana far ahead of summer season. He said due to inefficiency of the Congress government, crops ready for harvesting were withering away in the absence of irrigation water supply. Instead of owning up his government’s failure to secure and pump water, the Chief Minister was trying to shift the blame onto the nature.

“This is not a drought caused by nature, but a drought brought by Revanth Reddy,” he said, questioning why crops thrived under former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s rule despite similar weather conditions, while they were now drying up across Telangana.

Speaking to mediapersons at Jangaon on Monday, Harish Rao said due to financial mismanagement, the Congress government failed to clear Rs 7,000 crore in dues to the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) contractor of the Devadula project, leading to non-operation of motors for 33 days. “Had they been operated on time, reservoirs would have been filled, and fields would have received water,” he said.

He slammed the Congress for running a “20-20 commission” government, as 20 per cent bribes were being taken for clearing bills, land approvals, and municipal permissions.

The BRS legislator demanded the immediate operationalisation of Devadula Phase 3 motors to save over one lakh acres of crops in erstwhile Warangal district. He also slammed Revanth Reddy for his silence over Andhra Pradesh’s alleged water theft from the Krishna River, accusing him of being subservient to his counterpart N Chandrababu Naidu. “He lacks courage to question Naidu who is his mentor, despite the injustice being caused to Telangana,” he added.
