Hyderabad: In a sharp political attack, former Minister and BRS senior leader T Harish Rao accused both the Congress and the BJP of betraying Telangana’s interests. Targeting Rahul Gandhi for his indifference to the State’s growing problems under the Congress regime, he said people were now seeing through the double standards and empty promises of both national parties.
Addressing a gathering at Telangana Bhavan, where over 200 BJP leaders and workers from the Jubilee Hills constituency joined the BRS, Harish Rao said the Congress and the BJP were two sides of the same coin that had remained indifferent to Telangana since the beginning. He asserted that the BRS alone remained Telangana’s voice, defending the State’s rights.
He accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of ruthlessly demolishing poor people’s homes under the pretext of the HYDRAA drive while sparing the properties of affluent Congress leaders. “If this is Rahul Gandhi’s idea of Mohabbat ka Dukaan, it is built on the sufferings of the poor who are deprived of shelter,” he remarked.
The BRS leader also questioned Rahul Gandhi’s silence on the alleged vote manipulation in the Jubilee Hills by-election, claiming there were over 20,000 fake votes. “Rahul Gandhi talks about vote theft in Bihar but turns a blind eye when his own party in Telangana indulges in malpractices. Why this hypocrisy?” he asked.
Targeting the BJP, Harish Rao said the Modi government had completely ignored Telangana. He cited the Centre’s support for Andhra Pradesh’s illegal construction of the Banakacherla project, the denial of new medical colleges to Telangana, and the lack of funds for the Godavari Pushkaralu as examples of discrimination. “The BJP gave Andhra special packages but not even ten paise to Telangana. Is this Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas?” he asked.
The senior MLA said the BRS, under K Chandrashekhar Rao, had built Telangana’s brand image through welfare schemes and inclusive governance. “KCR gave dignity to women through Kalyana Lakshmi, respect to elders through Aasara pensions, and security to girls through SHE Teams. The Congress has only brought them tears and destruction,” he said.
Calling on voters to support Maganti Sunitha, widow of the late MLA Maganti Gopinath, Harish Rao said her victory would be a tribute to a leader who served Jubilee Hills selflessly. He expressed confidence that the people would show both the Congress and the BJP their place in the Jubilee Hills bypolls.
