Hyderabad: BRS Deputy Floor Leader T Harish Rao strongly condemned the attack on the Leader of the Opposition and Gajwel MLA K Chandrashekhar Rao’s camp office by Congress leaders on Saturday.
This attack was carried out under the direct orders of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. It was an assault on democracy orchestrated by the Chief Minister himself, he charged.
The conduct of Congress leaders, who, intoxicated by power, were acting recklessly in broad daylight. If elected representatives’ camp offices were being subjected to such attacks, does law and order exists in this State, he asked.
“It is shameful that under Congress rule, attacks on elected representatives, civil society groups, and the media have become a daily occurrence,” Harish Rao said.
The BRS Deputy Floor Leader questioned if the police machinery whose primary was to uphold law and order transformed into a private militia for the Congress party. “Why are they failing to intervene and stop these attacks,” he asked.
He also found fault with the Chief Minister for his double standards.
On one hand, attempts were being made to silence the public and the opposition under the pretext of a “Hate Speech Bill”. On the other hand, you orchestrate attacks through Congress goons, he charged, asking “Is this what you call “Praja Palana?,”
The former Minister also questioned the priorities of the Congress government.
Have the Chief Minister and his Ministers completely abandoned their administrative duties in Telangana while touring other States for political purposes? If the Chief Minister and his cabinet were preoccupied with election campaigning in other States, then who has to oversee the administration here in Telangana, he asked.
After boasting about the “Restoration of Democracy” as seventh guarantee, the Chief Minister has ruined the democracy, he slammed.
He asserted that the BRS party would get intimidated by such attacks. “We will continue to confront you at every step in the public arena and will persist in fighting on behalf of the people,” Harish Rao said.
He demanded the State DGP B Shivadhar Reddy to identify and immediately arrest the Congress goons, who carried out attacks on the BRS president’s camp office.
“If such attacks are not curbed, a situation will arise where the people themselves will be compelled to take to the streets to safeguard democracy,” Harish Rao warned.
