Hyderabad: BRSLP deputy leader T Harish Rao condemned the arrest and detention of former BRS MLA and Dalit leader Balka Suman, accusing the Congress government of undermining democracy in Kyathanpally. He demanded that the State Election Commission ensure Suman’s immediate and unconditional release and oversee the conduct of the municipal chairman’s election in a free and fair environment.

In a statement, Harish Rao alleged that Suman was taken into custody for confronting the undemocratic and arrogant actions of the ruling Congress during the election of the Kyathanpally municipal chairman. Despite the BRS securing a clear majority in Kyathanpally, he said the Congress was attempting to capture the chairman’s post through misuse of official machinery, police force and money power.

Calling out a mockery of democracy by the Congress in broad daylight, he stated that similar incidents had occurred in Thorrur, Jangaon, Ibrahimpatnam and Zaheerabad, where the Congress was allegedly disregarding the public mandate to secure key municipal positions.

Referring to an alleged attack on a Dalit woman councillor in Jangaon, Harish Rao accused authorities and police of remaining silent spectators. “The collapse of democratic institutions under Congress rule is evident,” he said
