Hyderabad: Former Minister and senior BRS leader T Harish Rao on Wednesday said the Congress government was fabricating stories on investments and turning the much-publicised Telangana Rising Global Summit into a costly but visionless publicity stunt.

He threw an open challenge to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to release a white paper detailing actual investments brought in the last two years, companies grounded and the jobs created for Telangana youth.

He pointed out that even at the Global Summit, former UK PM Tony Blair and former RBI Governor Duvvuri Subbarao had praised Telangana’s decade of progress under BRS rule.

“This is a slap on face of Revanth Reddy who has been trying hard to discredit the K Chandrashekhar Rao government,” he said.

Harish Rao termed the government’s Vision Document a visionless bundle of half-truths, filled with colourful pages, big claims and zero substance. Stating that the government was using global platforms to mask administrative failures, he said Revanth Reddy was promising a CURE, PURE and RARE model.

“In reality, he is a Chor (thief) looting Telangana,” he charged.

The former Minister stated that the Global Summit, which was hyped for months as Telangana’s biggest investment draw, ended up resembling a real estate expo rather than an economic conclave. The event lacked genuine global participation as Congress leaders had filled seats with college students and party workers.

“You promised 18 Chief Ministers and 5,000 foreign delegates. Except your party leader DK Shivakumar, none turned up. The event was a mere political show,” he said.

He accused the government of using the Summit to promote land deals linked to the proposed Fourth City project which is a full-blown real estate scam. He alleged that lands around Pharma City were purchased in advance by benamis associated with the ruling party and pushed under the guise of Future City.

Harish Rao called the State government’s claims on foreign investments as hollow. He cited the Chief Minister’s tours to Davos, the United States, South Korea, Japan, Singapore and Australia, questioning the fate of the MoUs showcased after each visit.

“You claim crores in investments from Davos 2024, the AI Global Summit, and Davos 2025. Where are those companies? Where are those jobs?” he asked.

The BRS leader stated that despite back-to-back summits, Telangana had not seen a single major investment grounded, while several existing industries had shifted operations to neighbouring states due to policy chaos. citing Sigachi Industries and Virupaksha Organics, he said both companies moved Rs 2,315 crore worth of investments to Andhra Pradesh, taking thousands of jobs with them.

Harish Rao also criticised the government for hypocrisy in engaging major conglomerates.

“Rahul Gandhi calls Ambani and Adani exploiters. But Revanth Reddy rolls out the red carpet for them and signs agreements with Karan Adani,” he said, alleging benami transactions behind the MoUs.

He said the Congress government had not only failed to attract new investments but had also destroyed the investor confidence built during the BRS regime.
