Hyderabad: Finance and Health Minister T Harish Rao did not pull any punch in his fiery condemnation of Union Food and Public Distribution Minister Piyush Goyal’s inappropriate behaviour with the Ministerial delegation that met with him on Tuesday, and demanded an unconditional apology from the Union Minister for ‘humiliating’ the delegation. “He should apologise and withdraw his remarks,” he said.
Goyal had asked the Ministers who met him to seek enhancement of paddy procurement targets whether they had no work in the State that they could come to meet him in New Delhi repeatedly to discuss the issue.
Strongly objecting to the Union Minister’s remarks during a media conference here, Harish Rao said the Union Minister appears to have forgotten his official position and behaved like a politician whose remarks had hurt the self-respect of 70 lakh farmers in Telangana State.
“The delegation comprising six Cabinet Ministers and MPs is in Delhi on behalf of four crore people of Telangana including 70 lakh farmers to seek clarity on paddy procurement. What right do you have to humiliate our Ministers and the State? Rather than clarifying on whether the Centre would procure paddy or not for the ongoing Kharif procurement and also the Rabi crops, the Union Minister was beating around the bush. He evaded answering directly to the point,” Harish Rao said. He asserted that TRS was born for Telangana State and farmers were the priority for the TRS government unlike BJP whose priority was politics.
