Hyderabad: BRS deputy floor leader T Harish Rao demanded the immediate appointment of a full-time Director of the Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (TVVP). He said the absence of a full-time Director was affecting the functioning of 184 hospitals under the TVVP.

A delegation of the Telangana Medical Education Employees Joint Action Committee met Harish Rao at his residence on Tuesday and submitted a representation highlighting its issues.

Speaking on the occasion, Harish Rao stated that the TVVP, which provides specialised services such as gynaecology, orthopaedics, urology and paediatrics in rural and urban areas, had been functioning without a full-time Director for the past two months. He observed that this had affected the supervision of hospital functioning, medical services, doctors’ attendance, laboratory tests and the availability of medicines.

He said doctors and medical staff were facing unresolved service-related issues, while patients were also being affected by inadequate services.

Harish Rao recalled that the previous BRS government had decided to transform the TVVP into the Directorate of Secondary Health and merge it with the government to address service and salary-related issues. However, service rules and guidelines had not been framed even after nearly three years of the Congress government, he added.

He demanded that the government immediately constitute a committee to formulate service rules and guidelines and appoint a full-time Director without further delay.
