Hyderabad: BRS Legislature Party deputy leader T Harish Rao demanded that the Congress government extend death gratuity and family pension benefits to the families of Model School teachers across the State. He also sought compassionate appointments for eligible family members and clearance of five pending DAs (Dearness Allowances) for teaching staff.

Following his meeting with representatives of Model School teachers and families of teachers who died while in service at his residence on Wednesday, Harish Rao said the families of around 40 teachers appointed under the CPS system after 2004 were facing severe hardship as the government had failed to extend benefits under GOs 60 and 58 to Model Schools.

He said the families had submitted several applications to the Chief Minister and officials over the past 32 months without any response.

The BRSLP deputy leader said around 3,000 teachers working in 194 Model Schools were denied five DAs, causing financial hardship. He said the Education department had sought an additional budget of Rs 93 crore to clear the arrears, with no response. He stated that the pending DA amounted to Rs 3.52 lakh for each principal, Rs 2.81 lakh for each postgraduate teacher and Rs 2.36 lakh for each trained graduate teacher. He demanded that the arrears be released in one go without further delay.

He also sought immediate implementation of the Employees Health Scheme (EHS) for Model School teachers under the new guidelines and demanded that Model Schools be brought under the ‘010’ budget head to address their financial issues permanently.

Harish Rao said teachers were being forced to run around government offices instead of focusing on teaching. He assured the affected families and teachers of BRS support and said the party would raise their issues in the Assembly and fight for their demands.
