Hyderabad: BRS Deputy Floor Leader and former Minister T Harish Rao launched a sharp attack on the Congress, questioning its alleged double standards on allowing PowerPoint presentations in the Assembly.

Recalling events from 2016, he said that when the Congress was in the Opposition, it had opposed audio visual presentations in the House and had even boycotted the proceedings. On March 30, 2016, the then TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy had written to the Speaker stating that Congress MLAs would not attend the Assembly if such presentations were allowed.

However, Harish Rao pointed out that the same Uttam Kumar Reddy, now serving as Irrigation Minister, made a presentation during a short discussion on “Krishna River Waters” in the House on Friday.

Highlighting what he termed glaring contradictions, Harish Rao posted on X, “The same Uttam Kumar Reddy sir, now preparing for a presentation in the Assembly in the capacity of a Minister. This is a testament to political hypocrisy.”

The former Minister further recalled that the present Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Kodad MLA Padmavathi Reddy were also signatories to the 2016 letter opposing such presentations.

“This one letter alone is sufficient to expose the unethical and double standards of the Congress party. When in opposition the Congress leaders campaign for democratic values and constitutional rights but soon after they come to power, they crush all these morals and values,” Harish Rao said.

He added that BRS members had sought permission from Speaker G Prasad Kumar to make a presentation in the House, similar to the one allowed to the ruling party. However, the Speaker denied permission to the BRS.

“This is the real difference between the Congress party and the BRS. After A Revanth Reddy became the Chief Minister, the Congress is discarding customs and traditions and making a mockery of the Constitution. People are now realising the true meaning of ‘Change’ as campaigned by the Congress,” Harish Rao alleged.
