Hyderabad: Timely intervention by Health Minister T Harish Rao saved the life of a youngster, Harshavardhan, a resident of Warangal, who was suffering from Crohn’s disease, an inflammatory bowel disease that causes inflammation of the digestive tract, causing abdominal pain, severe diarrhoea, fatigue, severe weight loss and malnutrition.

A few days ago, the plight of Harshavardhan was highlighted by Telugu film director Sekhar Kammula on Twitter. Sekhar Kammula tagged Harish Rao and sought his assistance following which the Health Minister immediately made arrangements to get Harshavardhan admitted to NIMS for treatment.

While there is no known cure for Crohn’s disease, there exist therapies and after admission to NIMS, Harshavardhan’s health condition is stable and has started to improve. The film director again took to Twitter to acknowledge Health Minister’s role in getting Harshavardhan admitted to NIMS and saving his life.

“It’s been almost three years since we have been constantly bombarded with medical emergencies. It’s very exhaustive as our resources keep dwindling and stories of triumph are hard to come by. Here is one bright spot. Harshavardhan, a youngster from Warangal, was diagnosed with a rare life-threatening disease called Crohn’s disease. His condition was getting hopeless and beyond control, I reached out to Health Minister T Harish Rao, who immediately took the initiative and provided all the medial help at NIMS. Harshavardhan is safe now. Your timely and caring reaction saved a life and gave us tremendous hope. It instilled confidence in the system and you stood true to your reputation of being people’s minister, thank you, Harish Rao,” Sekhar Kammula posted this message on his Twitter feed.

Responding to the appreciation, Harish Rao tweeted “Happy to hear that Harshavardhan is safe and doing well. Thanks to the medical team at NIMS for their service. Our government led by CM KCR is here to serve and do the best for the people of Telangana”.
