Hyderabad: High-end medical diagnostic equipment worth Rs 9 crore, which includes a state-of-the-art Cath lab for conducting emergency heart procedures and a CT scan, were inaugurated by Health Minister, T Harish Rao at Osmania General Hospital (OGH) on Tuesday.

In the coming days, 4 more Cath labs worth nearly 28 crore will be available for poor patients at government teaching hospitals in Adilabad, Warangal, Khammam and Gandhi Hospital, Health Minister after inaugurating the Cath lab and CT scan at OGH said.

Specialized Cath labs will prove to be a boon for patients at Government hospitals in Telangana, who now will have access to free diagnostic tests and procedures like angiogram, angioplasty and even implantation of pacemakers, which are usually very expensive procedures at private healthcare facilities.

The OGH already had two CT scan machines and a third one was inaugurated by the Minister on Tuesday.  Apart from the medical diagnostics, in the coming months, another 50 ICU beds along with new ventilators will be added at OGH. In the coming months, a new mortuary, being constructed with a cost of Rs 5 crore, will also come-up at OGH. Following the upgradation of medical infrastructure, the health authorities will apply for certification from National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH).

“The State government is pulling out all stops to ensure modern medical diagnostics and health care services are available at OGH. We are also putting a lot of focus and effort to improve the situation of sanitation and provide health care services to start adding more health care services under Aarogyasri and Ayushman Bharat health insurance schemes,” Harish Rao said.
