Hyderabad: BRS deputy floor leader and former Minister T Harish Rao participated in Mahavir Jayanti celebrations at the Nampally Exhibition Grounds on Tuesday, along with former Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav and senior BRS leaders.

Speaking on the occasion, Harish Rao recalled the relevance of Bhagwan Mahavir’s teachings of non-violence, truth and harmony in contemporary society. He said the principle of Ahimsa Paramo Dharma remains vital amid rising intolerance and called for adherence to the “live and let live” principle as a way of life.

He stressed that Mahavir’s ideals transcend religion, offering guidance for public life and governance, advocating peace, transparency and moral conduct. He termed Telangana as a symbol of communal harmony where diverse faiths coexist. He said Telangana has been an abode for Jain and Buddhist sanctuaries for several centuries.

Harish Rao also referred to the contributions of the Jain community in social service, including healthcare initiatives such as Mahavir Hospital and dialysis centres. He said such efforts inspired the previous BRS government to take up similar initiatives across the State. He pointed out that the BRS also extended support to the Jain community by allotting two acres of land for Jain Bhavan in Uppal Bhagayat, ensuring representation to the Jain community in the Minorities Commission and taking up other initiatives.
