Hyderabad: Former Minister and senior BRS MLA T Harish Rao ridiculed the Congress government’s proposal for the construction of the Pranahita-Chevella project from Tummidi Hatti to Yellampalli, sarcastically terming it a textbook example of engineering brilliance.
Taking a sharp dig, Harish Rao compared the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme, which was built at a cost of Rs 84,000 crore to provide water for 37 lakh acres with 240 TMCft usage, to the proposed Pranahita-Chevella project of the Congress government. “From Tummidi Hatti to Yellampally, they are spending Rs 35,000 crore to irrigate just 4.47 lakh acres with 80 TMCft,” he quipped.
The BRS leader said that with a third of the cost of the Kaleshwaram project, the Congress was not even able to cover a tenth of the project’s ayacut with its plans to revive the Pranahita-Chevella project. “What an incredible achievement. This is true innovation in engineering,” he said sarcastically.
He added that this “wonderful logic” stood as yet another shining proof of the Congress government’s technical genius. “Isn’t this the real change they promised?” he asked, mocking the ruling party’s slogan of bringing change.
