Hyderabad: T Harish Rao, deputy leader of the Legislature Party of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), on Wednesday objected to the review of the Telangana government’s performance by the Congress leadership in Delhi, calling it an attack on the State’s pride and a blow to the principle of self-governance.
He questioned the rationale behind summoning the Telangana Cabinet to Delhi for a performance review.
In a strongly worded open letter to Mallikarjun Kharge, president of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), senior leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, and other AICC functionaries, Harish Rao said Telangana was formed after a prolonged Statehood movement to secure self-rule with self-respect, and not to function as a “remote-controlled State”.
Quoting BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, he said the real bosses of Telangana were its people, in contrast to what he described as the Congress government’s accountability to its Delhi high command.
Harish Rao demanded that the Congress leadership begin its review by examining the failure to implement the party’s six guarantees, which were promised within 100 days of coming to power but remain unfulfilled even after more than two years. He said a bill to give legal backing to the guarantees was still pending.
He alleged that the Congress government led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had failed to honour key promises to farmers, including the ₹2 lakh crop loan waiver, enhanced Rythu Bharosa, crop bonus and crop insurance. Partial implementation and exclusions had left farmers disillusioned, he said.
The BRS leader also cited unfulfilled commitments to youth, including two lakh government jobs in the first year, a job calendar, unemployment allowance and electric scooters for young women. Instead, he alleged, unemployed youth were facing police action while seeking jobs.
On social justice, Harish Rao said promises relating to enhanced reservations for SCs and STs and procurement benefits had not materialised. He alleged that several welfare schemes launched under the previous BRS regime, including KCR Kit, Dalit Bandhu, BC Bandhu and fee reimbursement, were being diluted or discontinued.
Leveling serious allegations of corruption, he claimed that public funds were being diverted to serve national party interests. He warned that Telangana’s self-respect would not tolerate external control and urged the Congress leadership to focus its Delhi review on the failures of the Revanth Reddy government.
