Hyderabad: BRSLP deputy leader T Harish Rao on Sunday ridiculed Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for calling the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) as an American organisation. He said the remark was a proof of the Chief Minister’s lack of basic awareness.
Reacting to Revanth Reddy”s remarks, Harish Rao said ICRISAT, located at Patancheru near Hyderabad since 1972, was an independent international research body and part of the CGIAR network, supported by multiple countries and global institutions, not the United States alone. He said organisations such as the FAO, UNDP and the World Bank were involved in its establishment, along with support from the Government of India and international foundations.
Taking a dig at the Chief Minister, the BRSLP deputy leader said Revanth Reddy who lacked basic knowledge on issues such as Nallamala borders, river waters and irrigation projects, was now making incorrect statements even about international institutions functioning in Hyderabad for decades. He urged the Chief Minister to verify facts before speaking to avoid bringing disrepute to the State and making it a laughing stock.
