Hyderabad: BRSLP deputy leader T Harish Rao said the party would scrap the proposed Future City project and restore the original Pharma City initiative after returning to power in Telangana. He accused the Congress government of diverting land acquired for pharmaceutical industries towards real estate and commercial activities.

Addressing NRIs during his visit to the United States on Friday, Harish Rao said the Pharma City project had received environmental clearance from the Union Environment Ministry. He said it was designed to generate large-scale employment while strengthening Telangana’s pharmaceutical sector. The original project envisaged 75 per cent of the land for pharma industries and 25 per cent for ancillary infrastructure such as housing and educational facilities.

However, he alleged that the Congress government had reversed this ratio by prioritising commercial development in violation of the provisions of the Land Acquisition Act. He also said the State government had informed the High Court that the Pharma City project was still continuing, even as it pursued Future City on the same land.

BRS working president KT Rama Rao backed the charge, stating that the land acquisition was specifically undertaken for Pharma City and could not legally be diverted for other purposes. He accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of converting an industrial project into a real estate venture.
