Hyderabad: Former Minister and senior BRS MLA T Harish Rao condemned the preventive detention of students ahead of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s visit to Osmania University. With such actions, the Chief Minister was unleashing an Emergency-era rule in the State, he said, warning that such excess against students would not be tolerated.

Calling the move undemocratic and cowardly, Harish Rao warned that the Telangana society would not remain silent if even a single student was hurt. He questioned whether Revanth Reddy kept both the Education and Home departments under his control to suppress dissent. He demanded the Chief Minister to apologise for his actions and deliver electoral promises.

The BRS leader said the Congress had betrayed youth by turning the job calendar into a jobless calendar. He said despite promising two lakh jobs per annum, the government had not delivered even 10,000 in 22 months, besides cheating unemployed youth with promises of unemployment allowance.

“Issuing appointment letters for jobs given during former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s tenure and calling it your achievement is nothing but fraud,” he charged.

Harish Rao said students and unemployed were eagerly waiting for job notifications for the last 22 months, while Revanth Reddy was busy with Delhi tours. He reminded that the Congress had a long history of failing to deliver its electoral promises, and using police force against students to suppress dissent.

“Revanth Reddy should understand that the government cannot extinguish the fire in students with barricades, ban orders and arrests. The government will suffer their wrath,” he warned.
