Hyderabad: Former Minister and senior MLA T Harish Rao accused the Congress government of breaking promises and urged voters to defeat it in the upcoming Jubilee Hills bypoll to teach a lesson.
He cautioned that voting for the Congress would only embolden it to continue its anti-people and bulldozer politics in the State.
Leading a door-to-door campaign distributing the Congress Dues Cards in Jubilee Hills on Sunday, Harish Rao said 22 months after the Congress was elected based on its election guarantee cards, not a single promise had been fulfilled.
He listed out the unfulfilled promises, including monthly financial assistance to women, increased pensions, two lakh jobs, and student fee reimbursements and many others, which were not implemented. He stated that a Congress defeat in Jubilee Hills would force the government to implement its promises.
He also condemned alleged vote-buying by the Congress leaders and urged people to reject cash or liquor inducements.
“Reject them all and make the BRS win, for a better future,” he said.
Backing BRS candidate Maganti Sunitha Gopinath, the former Minister said her victory would honour the late Maganti Gopinath and deliver relief to ordinary women and households.
Harish Rao also charged the Congress with deceiving Muslims by not fulfilling promises such as one tola of gold under the Shaadi Mubarak scheme, stalling budgetary allocations for minority welfare and the demolition of a Dargah in Kodangal.
