Hyderabad: Haritha Haram plantation drives helped increase the green cover in Telangana, said TRS Rajya Sabha MP J Santhosh Kumar and added that the total forest cover in the State is inching towards 33 per cent from 24 per cent.

Speaking at the Green India Challenge drive on the occasion of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s birthday at Rachakonda Police Commissionerate’s land in Medipally on Thursday, he said: “The government is taking many measures to increase greenery in the State and Haritha Haram is one major step among them. The plantation drives played a significant role in increasing greenery.”

He commended the Rachakonda Police for taking an active part in Haritha Haram with the special drive of planting 1 lakh saplings in the open land where the new Rachakonda Police Commissionerate will be built in Medipally. Labour Minister Ch Mallareddy appreciated the Telangana Police for being in the first place in plantation programmes in the State.

Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat thanked Santhosh Kumar for taking up the Green India Challenge initiative by involving celebrities, politicians, and citizens alike.

“A total of 1 lakh saplings will be planted in the new Rachakonda Police Commissionerate land and 40,000 saplings were planted during the first phase. Around 60 varieties of native species saplings will be planted in the Yadadri model of plantation method,” Bhagwat said.
