Harry Brook rises to career-best fourth in T20I batting rankings

Harry Brook climbed to a career-best fourth in the ICC Men’s T20I batting rankings after starring in England’s series win over Sri Lanka. Pakistan’s Abrar Ahmed became the new No. 1 T20I bowler, replacing Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan.

1Hyderabad: England captain Harry Brook has attained a career-best fourth position in the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings after a successful home series against Sri Lanka while Rashid Khan has conceded the top spot in the bowling rankings to Abrar Ahmed after an unimpressive last match against India.

Brook, who scored 114 not out in the first match in Southampton and aggregated 170 runs to be named the Player of the Series, has advanced five places in the list led by India’s Ishan Kishan. Brook, who is the top-ranked Test batter, has also moved up three places to 12th in the ODI rankings and has a chance of being in the top 10 in all three lists.

Abrar Ahmed has become the No. 1 T20I bowler for the first time as other leg-spinner Rashid Khan slipped one rating point behind his tally of 736, finishing a six-month stint at the top. Abrar is the fifth bowler from Pakistan to top the T20I bowling table after Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal, Imad Wasim and Shahid Afridi.

Brook’s team-mate Jos Buttler contributed 172 runs to England’s 3-0 series win and is now just one place behind Brook after moving up two spots. India captain Shreyas Iyer (up seven places to joint-22nd) and England’s Tom Banton (up 30 places to 60th) are among the others to move up the T20I batting list while England’s Jamie Overton is a big gainer among bowlers, progressing 47 places to a career-best sixth position after finishing with five wickets in the series against Sri Lanka.

Liam Dawson (up 12 places to 11th), Indian spinners Axar Patel (up 12 places to 15th) and Ravi Bishnoi (up five places to 35th), and Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai (up three places to 49th) have also prospered in the bowling rankings. England’s Will Jacks is up to 58th position among bowlers and to third in the all-rounders’ list.

The ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings see Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza move up five slots to 24th after knocks of 45 and 81 not out in the last two outings of their three-match home series against Australia while Josh Inglis (up 11 places to 30th), Craig Ervine (up seven places to 65th) and Will Jacks (up two places to 77th are among the others to gain.

Australia pace bowler Nathan Ellis is up three places to a career-best 17th position after finishing with nine wickets in the Zimbabwe series while Sri Lanka seam bowler Asitha Fernando has moved from 39th to 30th after grabbing three for 53 in the opening match of their ODI series against England in Chester-le-Street.
