Adilabad: Parts of erstwhile Adilabad continued to boil under scorching heat wave conditions for the second day on Thursday, almost disrupting normal life.

According to the weather report on the website of Telangana Development Planning Society, Dilawarpur in Nirmal district saw the highest maximum temperature in Telangana with 46.5 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. Both Koutala and Devulawada registered the maximum temperature of 46.3 degrees C each. Jainad recorded the maximum temperature at 46.2 degrees C. The region witnessed sweltering heat wave conditions on Thursday.

Following torrid heat wave conditions, people were forced to stay indoors. They consumed fruit juices, coconut water and butter milk to beat the heat. Farmers suspended agriculture activities. Roads in towns and mandal centres wore deserted looks.

A farm laborer Naini Pochanna (30) died of sunstroke at Devapur village in Thalamadugu mandal on Wednesday. He experienced nausea and vomiting after returning from his agriculture field. He was immediately shifted to a hospital. He breathed his last while undergoing treatment.

A two-wheeler went up in flames when fire caught the vehicle in the forests of Nelwai village in Vemanapalli mandal on Wednesday afternoon. The bike rider, Shyam managed to survive by jumping off the bike on noticing the blaze. The two-wheeler caught fire supposedly caused by a scorching heat wave. It was reduced to ashes even before firefighters could arrive at the spot.

Meanwhile, smoke emanated from the front tyres of an Afiabad-bound TGRTC bus at Kerameri mandal centre, triggering panic among passengers. However, the driver doused the smoke by pouring water on the tyres. The passengers heaved a sigh of relief. The bus originated at Adilabad town.
