Heavy inflows force opening of floodgates at Hyderabad reservoirs
HMWSSB has opened floodgates at Osmansagar, Himayatsagar and Manjeera Barrage following heavy inflows from monsoon rains. Officials said inflows were recorded earlier than usual, while Hussain Sagar also received high inflows. Water levels in all reservoirs are nearing full capacity

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has opened the floodgates of Osmansagar, Himayatsagar and Manjeera Barrage after about 45 mm of rainfall was recorded in nearly 20 per cent of the catchment areas.
Usually, September is the month when the Water Board releases water, but this year the heavy inflows began a month earlier.
According to officials, four floodgates of Manjeera Barrage were opened, releasing 46,261 cusecs against an inflow of 43,716 cusecs. The Full Tank Level (FTL) of Manjeera Barrage is 1,651.75 feet, while the present water level stood at 1,650 feet.
Meanwhile, officials opened four floodgates of Himayatsagar, releasing 3,854 cusecs into the Musi River.
The GHMC also released a statement on Hussain Sagar’s status at 2 pm on Saturday. The lake received 2,067 cusecs of inflows, while outflows stood at 1,310 cusecs.
