Heavy rain lash Hyderabad overnight

Hyderabad: After a few days of dry and hot weather, the city witnessed heavy rains on Thursday night, which went on till early Friday morning. The city experienced a total of 21.3 mm of rain, whereas the normal rain expected was 4.3 mm. On Friday morning, pleasant weather prevailed across most parts of the city. It remained cloudy through the day with occasional drizzle in some parts.

Last night, several localities including Trimulgherry, Secunderabad, Kukatpally, Amberpet and Himayatnagar received moderate rains. Patancheru received the maximum rainfall of 41.1 mm, followed by Golconda, which witnessed 37.3 mm rain. Asifnagar and Nampally areas too witnessed heavy rainfall.


According to the forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD)-Hyderabad, the city will witness cloudy sky throughout the day, accompanied by moderate to heavy rain at isolated places, for the next few days. The temperature in the city has also dropped by at least three degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature recorded on Friday was 29.8 degrees Celsius.

Many districts across Telangana also received heavy rainfall on Thursday night. On Friday morning, the average rainfall recorded in the State was 26.4 mm, whereas the normal rainfall during this time of the year would be 5.7 mm. The highest rainfall of 107.4 mm was recorded at Dahegaon, Kumuram Bheem. Other districts, including Rajanna Sircilla, Mahabubabad, Karimnagar, Mulugu, Jagtial and Bhadradri Kothagudem also witnessed heavy rainfall.

The Weather Department also posted a three-day thunderstorm warning for several districts of Telangana. According to IMD, heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts Komaram Bheem-Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Warangal (Rural) and Warangal (Urban).
