Heavy rains continue to lash Telangana for fourth consecutive day
Photo: Anand Dharmana The Indian Meteorological Department had sounded a red alert for Telangana on Thursday, warning of heavy to very heavy rains in several districts of the State.

Hyderabad: Normal life was affected in several parts of Telangana on Friday with heavy rains continuing to lash several parts of the State for the fourth consecutive day, resulting in swollen streams and rivulets and irrigation projects receiving heavy inflows.

The Indian Meteorological Department had sounded a red alert for Telangana on Thursday, warning of heavy to very heavy rains in several districts of the State.

Till 8 am on Friday, extremely heavy rainfall of 374 mm was recorded at Wankidi in Kumaram Bheem district, followed by 314.8 mm at Asifabad in Kumaram Bheem, 230.5 mm at Raikal in Jagityal and 211 mm at Nadikuda in Warangal Rural.

The average rainfall in the State in the past 24 hours was 54.33 mm against the normal of 12 mm. As many as 82 mandals recorded over 100 mm rainfall.

The cumulative rainfall from June 1 to July 23 was 528.6 mm against the normal of 304 mm for the period.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, taking stock of the rain and flood situation in the State on Thursday, had instructed all the district administrations to be on high alert, particularly in view of the weatherman’s forecast of heavy rains in the upper reaches of both Krishna and Godavari rivers.
