Hyderabad: Heavy rains continued to lash several parts of Telangana State for the third consecutive day on Tuesday under the influence of a receding cyclone Gulab.

One person was reportedly washed away in Pulusumamidi stream in Vikarabad district. The incident occurred when the person tried to cross the stream on his bike despite being warned by locals and officials. Due to heavy flow of water downstream, the person along with his bike got washed away. Police are taking measures to trace him.

Many areas in Nizamabad district have been badly affected with Jakranpally receiving the highest rainfall of 232 mm till 8 am on Tuesday. Sirikonda and Chinna Mavandhi recorded 209.8 mm and 209.5 mm rainfall respectively in the district.

As many as 13 locations in different districts, including Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar and others received very heavy rainfall ranging from 157.8mm to 197 mm, said TSDPS officials.

Following heavy rains in Adilabad, the Muthadivagu project is getting heavy inflows and officials have alerted residents in low lying areas. Officials are constantly monitoring the inflows and would open the gates to release water downstream, depending on further inflows.

In Hyderabad, police appealed to the people heading towards Shamshabad Airport to take diversion via Outer Ring Road as Appacheruvu was overflowing and rain water was flowing on the Gaganpahad road.
