Hyderabad: Widespread rainfall continued across Telangana in the past 24 hours, with northern districts recording heavy to very heavy downpours, while Hyderabad and its surrounding districts experienced light to steady showers.

According to the IMD, Hyderabad, the present monsoon activity is due to strong weather systems active over the central parts of the country. Rainfall data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) between 8.30 am Thursday and 8.30 am Friday indicated that the northern districts continued to bear the brunt of the monsoon activity.

Northern and north-western districts, mainly Mancherial, Adilabad, Jagtial, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad and Nirmal, saw multiple locations receive more than 100 mm (10 cm) of rainfall.

Tapalpur in Jannaram mandal (Mancherial) recorded the state’s highest rainfall at 163.8 mm (16.38 cm), which falls under the very heavy rainfall category.

The regions that received rainfall under the very heavy category (115.6 mm to 204.4 mm) include Bharampur, Adilabad (153.0 mm), Kolvai, Jagtial (150.0 mm), Gullakota, Jagtial (121.5 mm), and Ichoda in Adilabad (119.8 mm).

More than a dozen locations, including Akena Palli (Peddapalli), Hajipur (Mancherial), Velgatoor (Jagtial), Jainoor (Kumuram Bheem), and Buttapur (Nirmal), recorded rainfall between 103 mm and 114 mm, which falls under the heavy rainfall category that usually ranges from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm.

In contrast to the intense downpours in the north, GHMC, Cyberabad and Medchal-Malkajgiri, along with surrounding municipal areas, received uniform light rainfall ranging between 10 mm and 15 mm.

Shaikpet recorded 14.5 mm, followed by Rajiv Nagar Community Hall in Nacharam (13.3 mm), Gachibowli (12.5 mm), Mehdipatnam (12.5 mm), and the University of Hyderabad (11.5 mm).
