Siddipet: Heavy rains lashed most parts of Siddipet district, disrupting normal life in the town and other parts of the district. Moya Tummeda Vagu, Mallaram Vagu and other streams were in spate following heavy rains on Sunday and Monday.
In the past 24 hours, the district received average rainfall of 79.6MM with Nanganur Mandal receiving the highest rainfall of 146.5 mm. Koheda138.2mm, Komuravelly 133.8mm, Bejjanki 125.9mm, Chinnakodur 110mm, Dhoolmitta 112.8mm, Kondapak 104.2mm received more than 100 mm rainfall during the past 24 hours at 8.30 am on Monday. With the IMD forecasting heavy rains to continue in the district for the next couple of days, Finance Minister T Harish Rao placed the district administration on high alert.
Against the normal rainfall of 496.6 mm rainfall as on Monday, the district received 886.9mm rainfall during the current monsoon, recording 78 percent excess rainfall this year. Almost all the irrigation tanks, check dams, and medium irrigation projects were overflowing while the streams- the small- and big, were in full swing.
The officials of all the departments have got into the business to rescue the people affected and provide rehabilitation. Following the directions of Harish Rao, the officials were busy providing shelter, ration, food, and other assistance to those who were seriously affected by rain. As the water was flowing over the bridges and culverts at several places across Siddipet district, the police suspended traffic in affected areas.
