Asifabad: A 30-year-old daily wage earner was washed away in a flooded stream while his wife and friend managed to escape the flood fury at Sungapur village in Tiryani mandal on Sunday night. The incident came to light on Monday. The body is yet to be traced.
Tiryani Sub-Inspector P Rama Rao said the deceased, Tekam Dobhi Rao, belonged to a tribal community from Danapur hamlet under Bugga Guda village in Tiryani mandal.
Dobhi Rao met with the watery grave when he and his wife Maru Bai and friend Athram Gangaram, who were on a motorcycle, tried to cross a medium level bridge built across a stream that was overflowing at around 10 pm. Maru Bai and Gangaram managed to get away from the bridge. All of them were returning from Asifabad to Danapur. The motorcycle was also washed away in the strong current of the stream.
Sources said all three of them were in an inebriated condition and decided to cross the bridge.
On coming to know about the incident, police went to the spot and launched a search for Dobhi Rao’s on Monday morning. They traced the motorcycle and parts of clothes worn by Dhobi Rao. The search operation was being carried up to 10 km downstream since the stream was in spate, the Sub-Inspector said.
