Heavy to very heavy rains to lash Telangana, as low pressure forms: IMD Hyderabad
The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rains in Telangana until August 16 due to a low pressure system over the Bay of Bengal. Yellow and orange alerts have been issued for Hyderabad and multiple districts, urging residents to prepare.
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Meteorological Department has advised people of Telangana to prepare for a vigorous southwest monsoon until this weekend.
A fresh low pressure area is likely to form in northwestern Bay of Bengal. Under its influence, Telangana is very likely to receive copious amounts of rainfall until August 16. Experience another very good spell of monsoon showers in the coming few days. Hyderabad will receive heavy rains between Wednesday and Friday,” Head of IMD, Hyderabad, Dr K Nagaratna said on Monday morning.
A yellow alert/warning indicating heavy rainfall has been issued for August 11- 13 for Hyderabad and several other districts, including Mulugu, Nirmal, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Adilabad, KomaramBheem Asifabad, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhongir, Rangareddy and Medchal Malkajgiri districts.
For August 14- 17, the IMD has issued an orange alert for very to very heavy rainfall. This warning is in effect for Hyderabad and other districts including Adilabad, KomaramBheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Jagtial, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Nalgonda, Mahabubabad, Yadadri Bhongir, Rangareddy, Medchal Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy and Medak districts.
A yellow alert (heavy rainfall) signifies anticipated rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm while an orange alert (heavy to very heavy rainfall) is issued when rainfall is expected to be between 115.6 mm and 204.5 mm.
