Bengaluru: The much-awaited Hebbal flyover extension was inaugurated on Monday by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, bringing much relief to commuters battling severe traffic congestion in north Bengaluru.
The 700-metre-long flyover, constructed at a cost of ₹80 crore, was completed in just seven months. Authorities expect the new structure to ease vehicular pressure significantly, reducing traffic congestion by at least 30 percent at the busy Hebbal junction, which connects to the city’s international airport and several major highways.
During the inauguration, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar created a nostalgic moment by riding his vintage Yezdi Roadking motorcycle on the newly built flyover. Sharing pictures on social media, Shivakumar wrote:
“Riding my old Yezdi Roadking brought back my college memories. This flyover will be a game-changer for commuters passing through Hebbal, improving both travel quality and reducing traffic delays.”
The Hebbal junction has long been a notorious bottleneck for motorists, with incomplete infrastructure and chronic congestion causing daily frustration. Officials say the new flyover has been designed to ensure smoother connectivity, particularly for vehicles heading toward Kempegowda International Airport.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah lauded the project’s timely execution and emphasized his government’s commitment to resolving Bengaluru’s infrastructure issues.
“The completion of this flyover is an example of what can be achieved with efficient planning and execution. Our focus remains on easing the daily hardships of citizens,” he said.
Commuters have welcomed the project, though some expressed concern over pending works around Hebbal, urging the government to expedite related infrastructure improvements. The inauguration, however, has sparked optimism that the flyover will provide lasting relief to thousands of daily travelers.
