“I look at her everyday crying in pain. The blood transfusions are immensely painful,” my entire body shuddered and shivers ran down my spine as I tried to imagine my 3-year-old’s suffering.
Every day I think about the horrifying possibility of losing my child, Monitha.
“She used to be such a playful and cheerful girl. Now, I can’t remember the last time I saw her smile. She’s constantly in pain.”
I try to assure myself that everything will be alright, that God is great and he will look after my daughter. But the thought of losing her scares me to the core.
Battling a type of blood cancer, now only a miracle can save my daughter’s life.
Just a short while ago, everything was okay.
But then all of a sudden, one night, my 3-year-old daughter Monitha got extremely sick and began vomiting incessantly. Her entire body turned pale yellow and her cries and shrieks filled our house.
When we rushed her to the hospital, the doctors quickly took her in and began running multiple tests on her.
After hours of waiting and praying outside the OPD, the doctor finally called us in and handed us the test results.
“I am so sorry, but Monitha has been diagnosed with blood cancer. Her treatment needs to start immediately or else there might be some severe consequences.”
For what seemed like an eternity, I lost my voice. I clutched onto my husband’s hand tightly and looked at his face. He was crying.
That’s when I understood what the doctor said. Not a fever, not any common vomiting, but cancer. Cancer is what my daughter is suffering from at the age of 3!
Unfortunately, this wasn’t all. When the doctor further informed us that the treatment would cost Rs 11 lakh ($ 14772.54) , that’s when I broke down completely.
We sold everything we had to be able to afford her treatment. Now, my husband and I don’t even have a single rupee to buy a square meal.
Despite all this, we haven’t been able to arrange enough for Monitha’s treatment.
Every minute that passes by without treatment, cancer threatens my baby’s life.
