Sangareddy: The High Court verdict came as a huge relief to 292 farmers of Rejinthal village in Nyalkal mandal as the court asked the Sangareddy district administration to withdraw the notification issued to acquire 566.12 acres of land farmers from the village.

As the district administration issued a notification to acquire these lands for National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ) in January last, farmers had approached the High Court saying that the district administration was going for the acquisition in violation of Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.

The farmers said that they were cultivating multiple crops in a year since all these 566 acres were fertile lands. Even though the court directed the district administration to exclude these lands from acquisition, the officials of Sangareddy just excluded the farmers on whose names the petition was filed in the court, prompting the remaining farmers to approach the court again.

As the court favoured the farmers in another verdict recently, the Sangareddy Collector Pratheek Jain issued a notification on June 29 withdrawing the earlier notification issued for acquisition of these lands. The farmers celebrated after receiving the copy of notification on Saturday evening. They distributed sweets between them and bursted crackers.

The farmers said that they would have lost their only source of livelihood unless the court intervened. They further said that they had generations of association with these lands. The district administration had planned to acquire 1,880 acres of land in the village including government lands, assigned lands and patta lands which include these 566 acres. However, the officials had completed the acquisition of the remaining lands and issued the compensation for the farmers.
